Happy Flunk Day

[cross-posted from LJ's knox_college]

You can take the girl off the campus, but you can't take the Flunk Day away from the girl! I overslept this morning, woke up, got the email and suddenly understood why.

And of course, in true Flunk Day form, I have rehearsal this evening ;)

My best to all of you Knoxians out there. Hope your Flunk Day is fun and safe!

cellular ennui

If I ever have a band, I'm going to name it Cellular Ennui. It would be a jazz combo. Yeah...

Thank you, DS9.

bebo

So M pointed this out to me today. It's an online address book that automagically updates your book when people in it chanage their information in the system. You can put your info in my book here:

Looks pretty spiffy. Wonder if I can sync it with palm desktop somehow...

gmail gets greedy for users

So I noticed a slight change in the gmail inteface this evening. Apparently they really want people to be using thier invites, as they're making it easier to do so. It used to be a "click here to do this sort of thing" and now they give you this handy box:

invite.jpg

Go figure. I still don't know anyone who wants one, so it's like I'm more likely to use them now. I just think it's amusing.

Update: So I logged in this morning and that 10 has jumped to 50. Yes. Fifty. So really, if you're at all interested....

"OooOOOooh Shiny" - The Holiday Edition

As promised, a picture of my wrapped holiday gifts (now that they're all done.) [~200k]

I know it's big, but if I made it smaller, it wouldn't be worth having at all. I'm not sure if even this does them justice, really.

from the "I shit you not" files

So I'm trying to figure out why my printer isn't working correctly, jamming and complaining about the print head being unable to move. Interested, I take the thing apart to find, much to my amazement, a GUMMY BEAR lodged in the bowels of my printer. How the hell the thing got there, I leave to your imaginations, as I have no clue.

rollerskating...

... is one of the coolest things EVER. Once I got past the "hey, this is what I did in elementary school" and "oh my god, I'm going to fall down" (by falling down with amazing ineptitude and vigor) it was so amazingly fun that I'm going to HAVE to do this again before the summer's up. That's just the long and short of it. You should too. Wanna come?

(PS: Harold and Kumar: totally worth it. :)

if (me == unobservant)...

Ok, this could potentially have been a pain in the ass, but instead, it's an Amusement.

So we realized on Sunday that my registration for my car has been expired since March. Yes, you read that correctly. March. I've been driving around for 4 months on expired registration and NEVER got pulled over. Well, we decided not to push our/my luck, joking that of course, now that we've noticed, I'd get pulled over the first time I left the driveway before we got it renewed.

Today, Dad followed me to work (in case I got pulled over - drove mom's car yesterday) and then went to the DMV to get things straightened out. Newly-reregistered, I drove home from work at the end of the day and... ta-DA... got pulled over in Elburn. He pulled out behind me, pulled me over, ran my plates and then waved me off. Never got out of the car, nothing. It was weird. (And a pain in the butt- getting back into traffic was not cool.) The only thing we can
figure is that he'd caught a glimpse of the expired reg earlier and knew that I'd be coming back that way in the evening, because there was no other reason for him to have pulled me over. teeheehee. talk about luck. I could have had a very, very expensive ticket.

That said, I absolutely HATE clothing shopping. It has put me in such a bad mood right now that I don't think I'll be pleasant again until tomorrow. No, I don't want everything I wear to be stretch, cling to my body, and make me look like a ho. I also don't want to look like I'm 40 years old. I don't want every non-tshirt, non-tank-top shirt I own to have a collar and I HATE capris and 3/4 sleeves. I don't want to wear tapered leg, and I don't want to be wearing FLARES
all the time either. I'm beginning to realize that only styles I can stand are made by expensive labels. Damn.

High-Fi Style

Top five terrible movies that I love to watch:

Super Troopers (Littering and... littering and...)
Evolution ( It's two hours of David Duchovney, who wouldn't?)
Star Trek IV: The Journey Home (Thare be whales here!)
South Park: The Movie (Sounds like a giraffe is dying over there!)
Bevis and Butthead Do America (You want us to do her?)

patrolling

Hrm. The police seem to be out in full force around campus this evening. I don't know if it's the same few cars I keep seeing, but every time I turn around they've got someone pulled over or they're talking to someone.

It probably doesn't have much to do with the fact that this campus has been given over to 300+ students with nothing to do but drink until Saturday.

I just stepped out of the SN house a few minutes ago, (stone sober, mind you) and an officer was talking to someone I vaguely recognized but could hardly distinguish because he was between me and the headlights of the squad car. As I walked to my car, another squad car pulled up to join the first. I seriously thought I was going to get stopped as I got in and drove away, just being out and about at 2:45 in the morning with all the other rukus going on. Thankfully I
wasn't, and it wouldn't have been a problem if I had, but it would have been kind of weird.

Now, I sleep.

I have a new appreciation for Netscape's tabbed browsing. I just discovered that

Belief -O - Matic

Out of curiosity I took the href="http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html">Belief - O -
Matic
test and had the following results: (Only the top eight of 27 are
listed.)

  1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
  2. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (95%)
  3. Liberal Quakers (93%)
  4. Neo-Pagan (84%)
  5. Theravada Buddhism (80%)
  6. Secular Humanism (80%)
  7. Bah' Faith (70%)
  8. New Age (70%)

Curious. I can almost see the Liberal Protestant, except for the "not believeing
in any sort of devine Christ" part. Ah well.
